340Better Pharmacy Program

Medicare Part D

As of December 15, 2005, TACHC has negotiated a contract with MemberHealth for the Medicare Part D Community Care Rx (CCRx) program for 340Better health centers. MemberHealth is a CMS nationally awarded PDP for Part D. The contract will need to be signed by a health center representative and returned directly to MemberHealth. For a copy of the MemberHealth contract, contact Lynn Ford and she can forward the contract to your attention. Once the contract is signed by the health center and returned to MemberHealth, MemberHealth will forward Part D patient enrollment materials to the health center for the health center patients to complete to enroll in the CCRx program. This agreement allows for the continued use of 340B pricing at the health center and also being able to utilize the CMS Part D program.

As of September 16, 2005, TACHC has negotiated a contract with a consultant to assist TACHC in negotiating contracts with the Medicare Part D PDPs. CMS has not yet awarded/determined who the PDPs will be, it will hopefully happen shortly. Once the PDPs are determined by CMS, then TACHC can negotiate with the PDPs for contracts for the TACHC 340Better health centers. If any of you have received contracts already from PDPs for Part D participation, please contact Lynn Ford at the TACHC office at (512) 329-5959 and forward the proposed contract. This will greatly help TACHC when the PDPs are finally awarded to know who to start to contact for contracts.

As you are aware on December 8, 2003, President Bush signed the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act (MMA) into law. The MMA establishes is an outpatient prescription drug benefit for Medicare beneficiaries effective January 1, 2006 (Part D).

REMEMBER, all 340Better health centers are able to take advantage of this Medicare Part D. Only a NCPDP number is needed to submit/adjudicate claims with MemberHealth. If your health center does not already have a NCPDP number, please contact NCPDP directly for the applicable enrollment forms. A DEA license attached to the pharmacy/health center is NOT required to acquire a NCPDP number.
