Matagorda Episcopal Health Outreach Program

MEHOP’s mission is to improve our client’s healthcare by providing quality medical and dental care to people in our communities regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, or ability to pay. MEHOP began in 1998 to provide healthcare to the underserved of rural Matagorda County with a mobile medical unit. Today, MEHOP has an established medical clinic and in March 2009 was awarded a FQHC grant with the availability of funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. A second building, which houses the dental clinic has been renovated and will restart July 2009. Matagorda County is a medically underserved area, with a dental and health professional shortage area. Over 27% of the county is without health insurance. Residents living below poverty is over 21%. The estimated population of possible underserved/uninsured is over 10,000 in our county. MEHOP is the only FQHC and is the only clinic offering a sliding fee scale for health and dental care.
